Safe and Sound

We had a day...not exactly sure how to describe it, but we are grateful to be safe in our hotel room in Grand Junction, CO and just a couple of hours away from our end destination of Ouray.

To start our day, we took one last planned detour to Boulder and visited Colorado University, home of the Buffaloes. The ride to Boulder was breathtaking because we were surrounded by the incredible Rocky Mountains. One picture below is of the drive into the city. We were impressed with the beauty of the campus. Soon we found an area by the stadium to park so that we could walk around and explore more of it. We walked around a lot, but unfortunately the stadium was locked down. David wanted to try one more part of the stadium before he totally gave up on his entry, and much to his delight, there was one gate open around back. We were able to walk right in, take a few pictures and admire the college football surroundings.

Now off to lunch...
Yes, we found another Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives spot in Boulder. It is called The Sink and has been on campus since 1927. I had a 1/2 Turkey Panini with fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers and pesto/mayo spread with a ceasar salad. David tried a cowboy reuben sandwich and ceasar salad that was featured on the show. Both meals were absolutely delicious, of course.

We walked more around the campus to find the Colorado Bookstore and bought t-shirts for David and the boys. After several days of driving, it was great to walk a lot this morning. Now onto the real journey of the day...

We left Boulder and headed to Grand Junction, which was over 270 miles away and through the Rockies! The drive was quite stressful today...between the steep road grade, twists and turns, road construction, one lane of traffic and severe storms, we were thrilled that we made it to Grand Junction in about 5 1/2 hours. As much as we enjoyed the beautiful scenery along the way, it was great to reach our destination safe and sound.

After a great dinner at Rockslide Brewery and Restaurant, we settled in early at the hotel and prepared for tomorrow...a hopefully short journey to Ouray!
